catch a Buzz...
By now the BuzzBomb has created quite a buzz among lovers of high gain, low watt tone. Comments like "..a cross between a Marshall and a Vox, with an lot more attitude.." and " I wish my Atomic 16 sounded like this.." A simple little amp that simply ROCKS! Class A-type tone that doesn't eat tubes. EL84s that don't sound harsh. A preamp that doesn't stop halfway, it goes all the way there! An 18 watt amp with booty!

For those of you who haven't heard, all 3 of you, here's the deal;
The BuzzBomb is a single channel, high gain, 18 watt, all tube guitar amp. It has 3 - 12AX7 and 2 - EL84 tubes in a Push-Pull, Class A-ish state of mind. The preamp is roughly based on the old Master Volume Marshalls, but scaled down and, of course, tweaked with some other ideas, like the "Earth" and "Sky" controls. The idea was to create a hard rock amp that you can use in small bars. It's loud, but not really f$#@! loud;-) See the FAQ for more...

2006 finds us with some v2.0 updates. Most obviously a new Tolex covering is standard. This makes the amp more durable and easier to tote/gig with. We can do about any color tolex you like, from the tasteful black, dark green, and dark red leatherette, to the bright red you see here. Also orange, purple, and even snakeskin. Custom paint finishes are still available for an extra cost. And we can do ANYTHING you want. Sweet! See the FAQ for more...

Less obvious is a new box-style .080 aluminum chassis with welded corners for added strength. A Fender-style pilot light for easier bulb replacement. Cabinets are made with birch plywood for strength. All this and it's still one of the lightest amps out there. This thing just begs to be gigged with! See the FAQ for more...

Some things change, and others do not. The amp is still built around our unique, hand-made BuzzBomb turretboard made from 1/8" thick G10. All hand wired, point-to-point with chassis-mounted tube sockets, jacks, switches, and pots. Bulletproof, yet easy to service as needed. Because the amp is cathode-biased you can pop new tubes in easily with no bias adjustment. Nice!

Gain: Here's where the fun starts. Low and smooth progressing into a meaty, satisfying growl, up to full-on crunchy goodness! Pull the knob to calm things down to a more "plexi-like" state of mind. This mode plays really well with your favorite overdrive pedals. Turn up the master and hear the power section do it's thing. Nice!

Lo, Mid, Hi: These work like you think they should. The Mid control is particularly cool with a wide range of mid tones. When you turn down the mids, the mids GO AWAY! Great for modern scooped-out-mid tones.

Master: Use this to control the overall volume. You can dime the master and bring up the gain till you find the perfect balance of preamp and poweramp drive. Unlike some other amps, our master volume keeps it's tone even at low volumes. Play with the balance of gain and master settings for just the right crunch.

Earth and Sky knobs. Think of the Earth knob as a low-end presence. Boosts lows below the bass knob for a resonance effect. Can you say "Beefy!"? The Sky knob works like a traditional presence knob in Marshalls, giving extended high-end response. These combine to provide unique voicing unavailable in other low-wattage amps. Thunder-lishous!

6V6 power tubes! Yeah, baby! That's what I'm talkin' about!
I've wanted to do a 6V6 version of this from the beginning. There's a bit less mids and more lows and highs in the V6 tone. They're also very creamy and smooth sounding when they distort. Detailed and punchy too. There's a bit more output from a pair of 6V6 tubes as well, 20 watts instead of the 18 from the EL84. It's not really louder, but there's a bit more headroom and dynamic in the tone. Plays well with single-coils and P-90s. Great with humbuckers! Take a listen: LesPaul-01 | LP-02 | LP-03 | LP-04 | Strat-01 | Strat-02

The new Hot/Cool switch 2.0
It's like having 2 classic amps in one! In "cool" mode the coolVolume is engaged with the 1st gain stage only and no master volume. This is for you "Plexi" fans! Bright, chimey clean up to the limits of the power section, and then a classic overdrive begins to take hold. Great for rythym chords, twangy things, or folks who like pedals!

In "hot" mode you're switched to a different, hotGain control and a 2nd gain stage kicks in. This is the classic BuzzBomb high-gain sound, with plenty of rich, fat, smooth overdrive on tap that makes your guitar come alive! A hotVolume control is also enagaged to control signal into the power section. Footswitch between the two modes and use the hotVolume and the coolVolume to balance your "clean" and "dirty" volumes. The front panel switch does the job when no footswitch is plugged in. This feature is also available on the original BuzzBomb EL84 model by special order.

The Mother Of All BuzzBombs!
That great BuzzBomb sound supersized for larger stages. A full 40 watts provided by four 6V6 power tubes. The upgraded output transformer gives you outputs for 4, 8, or 16 ohm speaker loads. The MOABB features the same great hot/cool chanel switching as our V6 head along with a 1/2 power switch to take it down to a manageable 20 watts for explosive cranked-up tone without ear-shattering volume. Big enough to blow audiences away, but small enough to take to a jam. Real big amp feel and headroom from 4 power tubes with that creamy 6V6 sound. This amp will blow your mind without blowing your budget. ThunderTweak drops the big one with the new MOABB V6! Check out these comments from a shell-shocked guitar player:
"You out did yourself this time!!! This amp has got a voice all it's own. The bottom end on this monster is unbelieveable. It's there without being overbearing. I could see doin' Lesley West no problem. There is a ton of variation and I will find the sweet spots. I can't wait to play this amp in a live situation it's gonna be killer. Thanks for the excellent work and planning. I would gladly recommend this amp to anyone." -J. DeRoche

The 1x12" BuzzBombo Combo!
That's just so much fun to say;-) Same 18 watts of screamin' EL84 soul in a tweed-style 1x12" combo cabinet. If you liked the head, you'll love the Bombo! Comes standard with hot/cool, high-low gain inputs. Suitable for a wide range of styles.Use the cool input for vintage Plexi tones, chimey Brit rock, or twangy Americana. Plays great with pedals! Plug into the hot input and wail with searing high gain, solid crunch, and a midrange that pulls notes from the guitar. You can even stack it with another speaker cabinet for an even bigger sound.

Our cabinet is custom designed and built for us by Will Dyke at Armadillo Amp Works from solid pine with finger-jointed corners for strength. We built the cabinet a bit taller and a bit deeper for a bigger bass tone. The back panels are also fairly large giving an almost "closed-back" tone.
For a speaker we use Celestion Vintage 30s or, our current fave, Eminence Swamp Thing 12s, or whatever speaker you like. That's the point of ordering an amp, isn't it?
