This is the newest version of my RatRod amps. I wanted something rough and cool looking. A vintage-style amp with a healthy crunch. Simple and killer. This one is inspired by the great California amps of the early 60's. It has a simple 2-stage preamp and a long-tail phase inverter for that tight, punchy sound that really drives the power tubes. Speaking of power tubes, I went with the creamy tone of 6V6's. 20 watts, solid state rectifier, cathode biased. Gain, tone, and volume controls say it all. From country cleans to crunchy leads this amp does it all. And plays well with pedals. And can do it at apartment volumes. And keeps up with any drummer I know. Throw this in the back of the pickup truck and head out to the blues jam! Them good ol boys won't know what hit 'em! |
On the backside there's a IEC AC plug for any standard computer-type power cord. A fuse holder (2 amp fuse.) and speaker output jacks for 8 ohms. Two 12AX7 tubes for the preamp and two 6V6 tubes for power. The amp is self biased, so don't worry about changing tubes. Just jam some fresh 6V6s in there and rock on! Hand lettered front and back and signed and dated on the side of the chassis. This amp, like all my amps, is a one-off work of art and tone! |

The inside is a handwire work of art as well. Handmade eyelet board sporting Mallory 150 caps and carbon film resistors for the best balance of vintage tone and modern low-noise. Neat stuff! |
This is an all new amp, built in the last 2 weeks for the Nashville Amp Expo. The chassis is heavy gauge, heavily rusted steel. The cabinet is covered in distressed leather, like a favorite old jacket. The whole package just begs to be rocked! |
